Description
"Suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a mighty rushing wind ... cloven tongues like as a fire sat upon them. And they were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues." (Act 2:2-4). The presence of Mary is from Acts 1:14 which places her with Apostles and other women in an upper room, praying. In the 15th or 16th Century, Pentecost images with Mary were common, but rare when this 18th Century mold was carved. Very moving imagery of great depth and clarity. In a private collection in Zurich.
